Community Members Join Forces with Bergenfield SID Staff For Spring Planting Event Bergenfield, NJ, June 4, 2009 – Bergenfield resident Karen D'Imperio approached members of the Bergenfield Special Improvement District's (BSID) board of directors this spring regarding ways to “spruce up” the district to make it more attractive and appealing. She was eagerly welcomed – and quickly recruited to organize a volunteer effort to support the BSID's staff at their busiest time of year. On Sunday May 17 th , D'Imperio, along with BSID board member and former Bergenfield Mayor Jim Bohan, organized a team of students from Bergenfield High School, Paramus Catholic High School and the confirmation class from St. John's Church in Bergenfield to plant flowers in decorative planters located throughout the Bergenfield District. BSID staff, under the direction of BSID field manager David Buchsbaum, cleaned and prepared the planters for planting. “My goal is to get the teens involved so they learn to give back to their community,” said D'Imperio, who recruited her own children for the event. “It's not hard to do, and it can be fun. I would like to see Bergenfield reach out to more community teens, through partnerships with groups like the BSID, so they can participate in other projects that will help make Bergenfield a great place to live, to work and to visit,” she concluded.
