The Bergenfield Special Improvement District is a public private partnership formed as an alliance between the business community and the Borough of Bergenfield. The Mission of the SID is to address the issues facing the business community with the goal of improving the local economy and the overall business climate in Bergenfield.

The SID management organization is guided by a 15 member Board of Directors comprised of business property owners, business owners, a resident of the borough and borough officials, and is supported by a full time staff.

Bergenfield's SID, created in January 1998, has focused on issues including:

  • Facades and Signage
  • Marketing
  • Parking
  • Streetscape
  • Special Events
  • Public Relations
Board members and other volunteers work on the above issues within an organizational structure of committees. These committees are currently working on projects such as improving the street retail environment with a proposal for new sidewalks and street lighting, marketing the district through the creation of a business directory, investor's marketing kit and publishing quarterly newsletters. There are no criteria in order to become an active participant in the SID's activities.

The Bergenfield Special Improvement District extends along Washington Avenue from the Teaneck to Dumont borders. The diversity of the district's businesses adds to the SID's marketing position. All of the programs and projects of the SID are supported through an annual budget generated through a special assessment on business properties located within the SID district.
